Politecnico di Milano is a public technical university in Milan, founded in 1863. It is the largest university of its kind in Italy and specialises in three fields: engineering, architecture and design.
Its main campuses in Milan are Leonardo, in the Città Studi district, and Bovisa, home to much of the design and engineering activity, with further campuses in Como, Cremona, Lecco, Mantua and Piacenza. The university has a strong tradition of collaboration with industry; Giulio Natta, who taught there, shared the 1963 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Its management school, the School of Management (MIP), is also part of the institution.
Bachelor's programmes are mostly in Italian, while a large share of master's degrees are taught entirely in English, attracting many international students. Admission to engineering and architecture uses the university's online admission tests (TOL) or portfolio and qualification review for international applicants. Tuition is income-based for students who submit Italian ISEE documentation.
