Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. Some are needed for the site to work; others help the site owner understand how the site is used.

Essential cookies (always on)

These are needed for the site to work, so they don't need your consent. They don't track you across other websites.

Analytics cookies (only if you accept)

We don't currently use analytics cookies. If we add Google Analytics, it will only load after you click Accept analytics on the cookie banner.

We don't use advertising or social-media tracking cookies, and we never sell data. Google Consent Mode is set so Google can't use analytics data for advertising, and Google signals are off.

Storage in your browser (no consent needed)

Some features save small notes in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, aren't sent to us automatically and aren't used for tracking. You can clear them in your browser settings at any time.

Videos, maps and other outside content

Videos on university pages and articles (for example YouTube or Vimeo) don't load until you click "Play video". Until then nothing is sent to the video provider. When you click, the video loads from the provider, which receives your IP address and may set its own cookies under its privacy policy. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and Vimeo's "do not track" setting.

Maps are drawn with map images from Google Maps. Your browser requests these images directly from Google, so Google receives your IP address. We don't add any tracking to these requests.

Our fonts are stored on our own server, so loading a page doesn't contact Google Fonts.

Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a refusal of analytics cookies and don't show the banner. You can still choose to accept analytics in Cookie settings.

Changing your choice

When analytics are enabled, a "Cookie settings" link in the footer lets you change your choice at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site still works without analytics cookies.

We keep a record of your choice (accepted or rejected, the date, the policy version and a one-way hash of your IP address) for 25 months, so we can show that we asked. We ask again after 12 months, or sooner if this policy changes in a way that affects your choice.
