Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) is one of Vietnam's two national universities. It traces its history to the Indochina University founded in 1906 and was reorganised into its current form in 1993.
VNU is a multi-disciplinary system of member universities and schools, including the University of Science, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Languages and International Studies, the University of Engineering and Technology, the University of Economics and Business, the University of Education, the Vietnam-Japan University and the International School. It is developing a large new campus at Hoa Lac.
Teaching is mainly in Vietnamese, with English-taught and joint programmes. Admission is based on the national high school exam and VNU's own competency assessment.
