Princeton University is a private Ivy League research university in Princeton, New Jersey. Founded in 1746 as the College of New Jersey, it is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States.

Princeton is known for its focus on undergraduate teaching, including a required senior thesis, alongside a graduate school with strong programmes in mathematics, physics, economics and public policy (School of Public and International Affairs). It has no law, medical or business school. Its campus features Collegiate Gothic architecture, and the nearby Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is managed by the university.

Admission is highly selective. Princeton's no-loan financial aid policy meets full demonstrated need with grants, and undergraduates live in residential colleges.
