Sabancı University is a private, non-profit research university in Istanbul, established in 1994 by the Sabancı Foundation and welcoming its first students in 1999. Its campus is in Tuzla, on the Asian side of Istanbul.
The university is notable for an interdisciplinary structure without traditional departments: undergraduates enter a common foundation programme and choose their major after the first year. Faculties cover engineering and natural sciences, arts and social sciences, and management (Sabancı Business School). It hosts research centres in nanotechnology (SUNUM), composite materials, energy and other fields.
Instruction is in English. Turkish students enter via the national YKS exam, and international students apply with recognised qualifications. The university offers merit scholarships and on-campus dormitories.
