The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA; Ethniko Metsovio Polytechneio) is a public technical university in Athens. Founded in 1837 and closely associated with benefactors from Metsovo, it is the oldest technical university in Greece.
NTUA has nine schools: civil engineering; mechanical engineering; electrical and computer engineering; chemical engineering; architecture; rural, surveying and geoinformatics engineering; mining and metallurgical engineering; naval architecture and marine engineering; and applied mathematical and physical sciences. Its historic Patision complex in central Athens was the site of the 1973 student uprising, and most teaching now takes place on the Zografou campus.
Undergraduate studies lead to five-year integrated master's-level diplomas, taught in Greek, with admission via the Panhellenic examinations. Postgraduate programmes and research centres cover a wide range of engineering fields.
