Sorbonne University (Sorbonne Université) is a public research university in Paris, created on 1 January 2018 by the merger of Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris IV) and Pierre and Marie Curie University (Paris VI). It continues the academic heritage of the historic University of Paris and the Sorbonne, whose origins date to the 13th century.
The university is organised into three faculties: arts and humanities, based in the historic Sorbonne building and other Latin Quarter sites; science and engineering, centred on the Pierre and Marie Curie campus at Jussieu; and medicine, linked to major Paris teaching hospitals such as Pitié-Salpêtrière. It also includes Polytech Sorbonne engineering school and marine stations at Roscoff, Banyuls-sur-Mer and Villefranche-sur-Mer.
Teaching is mainly in French, with some English-taught master's programmes. Public university fees are set nationally, with higher differentiated fees for some non-EU students.
